Pallet flooring is exactly that – Flooring that is made from deconstructed, wooden shipping pallets. The fact that hundreds of tons of old pallets land up on American landfills each year is an absolute waste of perfectly good building material. A Lot of these pallets are made from hardwoods such as hickory, walnut, and maple.

These pallets are often dumped into landfills after just a few uses, but by collecting them, you can get free material to build a one-of-a-kind floor. First, though, you’ll need to know what kind of pallets are suitable for flooring, where to find them, and how to prepare and install.
A single pallet usually can be stripped (more on in the next section) to provide about two square yards (1.1 square meters) of wood planks. This is presuming that the entire pallet is in a fairly good condition as outlined in the previous section above. Once you have measured the size of the room, that will help you get an idea as to how many pallets you will need to complete your flooring project.
